DMC vs SMC: What Industrial Buyers Should Verify

The published DMC/SMC Resin TDS uses DMC for Dough Moulding Compound and SMC for Sheet Moulding Compound. These names identify the two documented moulding-compound contexts for the product.

They should be used precisely. A buyer should not turn the DMC/SMC name into a generic label for every polyester compound, ordinary FRP sheet or unrelated resin grade.

What the current product data distinguishes

The product name distinguishes a Dough Moulding Compound context from a Sheet Moulding Compound context. The current repository publishes one DMC/SMC Resin and one grade-specific TDS that names both contexts.

It does not publish a product-specific account of compound form, reinforcement type, filler system, manufacturing condition, separate grade or finished-part performance for DMC compared with SMC. That distinction must be established from the actual requirement rather than invented on a comparison page.

Where resin selection fits

The resin is one part of a moulding-compound system. For a DMC or SMC enquiry, first identify the named compound context, component, any stated requirement and the document or purchase specification that controls selection.

If the requirement is actually an FRP sheet or panel, route it to the separately published Sheet Grade or Roof Light Sheet Grade products. If it is a general FRP need, use the GP or broader UPR route. Product role is more reliable than choosing by the word 'sheet' alone.

A clearer RFQ

State whether the request is DMC or SMC, describe the finished component, include any material or finished-part requirement, identify quantity and delivery location, and name the required documentation. This avoids an ambiguous request for 'SMC resin' that cannot be matched to the correct published route.
