Start with the job the material must do

A polyester pigment paste is a colour component in an FRP material-system discussion. GP Gelcoat Resin is a separate product role for FRP surface-finish applications. A buyer should not treat these as interchangeable simply because both relate to a coloured FRP product.

The first question is whether the requirement concerns colour within a specified system, a visible mould-side surface finish, or both. That answer determines which product data needs to be reviewed.

When the requirement is a colour discussion

Use the FRP Polyester Pigment product route when the buyer needs to discuss colour against a UPR, vinyl ester or gelcoat system. Share the component, intended base system, required colour reference or appearance requirement, quantity and delivery location. The current TDS remains the product-specific reference.

When the requirement is a surface-finish discussion

Use the Gelcoat Resin route when the buyer is defining the visible surface-finish role for a moulded FRP product. The product page and Gelcoat resources explain that separate role. If colour is also relevant, it should be assessed within the actual gelcoat system rather than assumed from a generic pigment request.

Avoid a one-word material request

A request such as 'gelcoat colour' can mean different things: a pigment-paste requirement, a gelcoat selection question, a finished-appearance requirement or a combination of these. Naming the component and base system allows the technical and commercial discussion to start with the correct product role.

Frequently asked questions

Is pigment paste a replacement for gelcoat?

No. The two published products have different roles: the pigment product is a colour component, while Gelcoat Resin is a separate surface-finish product. Confirm the actual component requirement before selecting either.

Can pigment be discussed with a gelcoat system?

The pigment product publishes gelcoat-system context. Review the specific gelcoat and current TDS before treating any combination as confirmed.
