GP Yellow Resin for General FRP Moulded Products

Panels, furniture, planters and general moulded FRP items need a dependable general-purpose laminating resin behind their surface finish — GP Yellow Resin serves this role wherever the part is painted, gelcoated or otherwise finished over its natural yellow tint.

Beyond tanks, panels and structural components, a huge range of everyday FRP items — planters, equipment covers, signage, mannequins and decorative fixtures — are all built the same basic way: moulded, cured and released. GP Yellow Resin, Samrat FRP Traders' general-purpose orthophthalic laminating resin, can serve as the structural laminate behind these mouldings using the same MEKP and cobalt octoate cure system as our GP Clear Resin.

What manufacturers build

General FRP moulding covers products such as planters and garden ornaments, equipment and machinery covers, signage and display fixtures, mannequins, decorative architectural elements, and other moulded items that don't require the specialised chemical or fire-rated performance of an industrial tank or panel, but do need a clean, consistent moulded finish.

Why this material suits the work

Most general FRP moulded products are built with a gelcoat surface layer applied first for finish, with the structural laminate built up behind it — and in that role, GP Yellow Resin's transparent yellow tint carries no functional downside, since the gelcoat determines the visible finish rather than the laminate underneath. Its thicker 450–600 cPs body still flows into most mould detail adequately, though for finely ornamental or textured mould shapes moulded without a gelcoat — where the base resin's own flow and clarity matter directly — GP Clear Resin's lower 350–450 cPs viscosity reproduces fine detail somewhat more readily. FRP Polyester Pigment can still be blended in for a coloured finish, though the existing yellow tint will combine with whatever pigment is added, unlike blending into a colourless base.

Process context

Moulded products are typically built with a gelcoat surface layer for finish, followed by chopped strand mat wet out with GP Yellow Resin, catalysed by an MEKP hardener and cobalt octoate accelerator, worked into the mould detail with a brush or roller. Its longer gel time gives a little more time to work resin into detailed geometry before it sets. Once cured at room temperature, the part is released, trimmed of excess laminate at the mould line, and finished — painted, polished or left in its natural cured state depending on the product.

Behind a gelcoat layer, yes — the gelcoat determines the finish, so GP Yellow Resin's viscosity and colour don't affect detail reproduction. What reinforcement is used for general FRP moulded products made with GP Yellow Resin?

E-glass chopped strand mat is the standard reinforcement, with layer count adjusted to the structural needs of the specific product being moulded — the same reinforcement approach used with GP Clear Resin.
